A visiting conductor once shared with my orchestra that each instrument that humans created was in pursuit of replicating the sound of a human voice. The closest instrument to come to the sound of a human voice, he said, is the cello. When I hear the cello now, I can't unhear the resonant, clear sound of a voice!

The cello needlepoint canvas is 4x5" on 18 mesh, hand painted and stitch painted.

While stringed instruments were played in the ancient world, the first cello didn't appear until the early 1500s. These early celli were first built in northern Italy, evolving from a group of stringed instruments called viola da braccio, or "viola for the arm".

Famed luthier Antonio Stradivari standardized the cello in terms of its shape and dimensions in 1713, which allowed composers and musicians to achieve virtuosic levels of composition and performance with the cello.
