Divination is found in all civilizations, both ancient and modern. In ancient Rome, divination was used to discover the will of the gods. Today, divination is more commonly encountered in the form of horoscopes, astrology, tarot cards, crystal gazing, and the Ouija board.
I love the crystal ball as the visual representation of the act of guessing at what the future holds for us. Most of the time, our feeble human attempts to see into the future can't actually show us what will come next. In my own life, I have found my way to happiness and fulfillment through unexpected and surprising means, which I never would have guessed at in a million years.
How are we to know what is coming? Do we simply wait for things to happen to us, or do we take charge of our own destinies and forge a path forward, with deliberate action and will? Is destiny something that happens to us, or is destiny something we create?
Regardless of the answers to these questions, I find joy in the mystery.
