Rebirth Tarot Card Needlepoint Canvas
Tarot is a card-based divination tool dating back to France in the late 1700s. Using archetypes and themes universal to the human experience, Tarot is popular for its use as a tool of self-discovery and introspection. While many people think that its use is for telling fortunes and predicting the future, Tarot is commonly used as a tool of reflection and insight.
.
While stitching the cards won’t give you a reading, stitching the cards may give you the opportunity to sit in reflection on the archetype before you.
.
“Rebirth” is actually my retelling of the dreaded “Death” card. I think this design is a better visual representation of the meaning of the “Death” Tarot card.
.
On this card lies the ancient symbol of the ouroboros, the snake eating its own tail, representing the eternal cycle of life and death. The snake is also in an infinity loop, giving the image a second layer of meaning. The green coloring of the snake further solidifies the image’s meaning, as green is the color of life, renewal, abundance, and prosperity. Death and life in an eternal dance, a constant swirling motion, repeating each cycle, and churning, churning, churning - each end is a beginning, each new beginning is an end.
.
When death is drawn in Tarot, it rarely means a literal physical death. It’s asking you to reflect on what in your life is metaphorically dying. What pattern of behavior is dying? What relationship, job, desire, phase, pursuit, is dying? In times of life’s biggest upheavals and most intense changes also comes life’s most surprising opportunities and new beginnings.
.
Stitch this card and reflect on endings and beginnings. Be reminded of the cyclical nature of the earth and the seasons and indeed, our human existences. Be reminded that when things end, new things can also begin.
.
All of the Tarot card designs are hand painted and stitch painted. Each design is 2 2/3" by 3 3/4" and are the same size as all of the tarot designs released by Fire and Iris Designs last year. If you bought tarot cards last year from Fire and Iris, these designs will match! The canvas is 7x8" for determining stretcher bar size, if needed.
