The witches are off for a hunt in the countryside! Based on traditional equestrian paintings and needlepoint tapestries depicting fox hunting, this scene reimagines those traditional themes while also turning the phrase "Witch Hunt" totally on its head. Instead of riding hats or helmets, the witches wear their witch hats. Instead of hunting with the hounds, each witch has brought her familiar - her cat!
This joyful and playful piece is one of my largest designs, at 11x14" hand painted and stitch painted on 13 mesh.
Here's a bit of the story of what's happening in the canvas:
The witch on her broomstick is afraid of horses, but still wanted to be included. Since their coven has no official leader, each witch naturally assumed that she would be the one to take charge and lead the hunt. That's why they all showed up wearing the red coat of the hunt master! Once the arguing subsided, they all decided to co-lead the hunt. The animals collectively rolled their eyes and had a brief meeting to determine that Onyx the cat would be the real leader, then the hunt was on! Tally ho!
